Destination: Pikes Peak!

Pikes Peak is located in Colorado Springs, and has an altitude of 14,115 feet above sea level.
I have not personally been to Pikes Peak, but I have family who have traveled here a couple of times and they are in love with it.

It is on the list of the one of the tallest peaks in Colorado, as well as one of the most visited mountains in all of North America.

You can take the highway all the way to the top of the peak, where you can park and experience the amazing views all the way at the top.

Not only can you travel to the top of the peak for the views, but the mountain offers several trails you can hike, as well as lakes and picnic areas for your enjoyment.

The most popular trail at this mountain is Barr Trail, which is 26 miles round trip. That is insane! I have never done a hike that long, so if you feel like you want to hike this, make sure you are prepared beforehand.

The thing that is especially important for you to prepare for, is weather changes. When you are at camp versus when you are hiking in the mountains, the weather changes drastically. When we were at camp, it was very hot and as we started hiking more in the mountains, we got very cold. Bringing a change of clothes would be beneficial.

Because this peak is so popular, there are also quite a few events that are hosted here. A few of them include:

  • Pikes Peak Challenge Fundraiser
  • New Year’s Firework Display

In Baraboo, Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake State Park resides which offers several different trails, as well as a lake. I want to talk about this state park because not only is it a great place for hiking, but because I have actually been hiking it since I was a little girl. Devil’s lake is pretty big, offering about 30 miles of trails throughout the park, and has cabins in case any of you were interested in making a trip out of coming here. Mystic Island Lake, Colorado

Mystic Island Lake! Mystic Island Lake is a lake is that is located outside of Vail, Colorado. It is in close proximity to Aspen, Colorado, which I have touched on quite a bit in my previous posts. Mystic Island Lake can be accessed by hiking Lake Charles first, which will lead you to Mystic Island Lake. While I have not personally hiked this trail, I have looked into it because of the close proximity to Aspen. It is nestled in the White River National Forest, which I have traveled to, and I wish I would have know about this place when I traveled to it, but now I can just plan another trip to check it out. It is rated as a long, difficult hike. It is about 9 miles out and back, with some very steep parts of the trail and difficult terrain to walk on. Ramona Falls, Oregon

Ramona Falls! Ramona Falls is located about an hour east of Portland, Oregon, and you guessed it; features a stunning waterfall at the end of the hike! The hike is about 7 miles long and has been reviewed as easy to moderate, so it is doable for beginners, and especially doable for more experienced hikers. I have been to Oregon once, and let me tell you, it’s a beautiful place. When I had the opportunity to go to Oregon, I did quite a bit of hiking and it filled with lots of green forests and stunning overlooks at the top of each hike.
